Matthew McConaughey in the Doghouse!

This discovery was a happy accident. I was scrolling through the gazillions of podcasts in the Apple library and I clicked on Hank The Cowdog. I immediately recognized the voice of Hank and was hooked. Matthew McConaughey’s familiar drawl voices the podcast’s main character. The show is based on a popular Texas-based children book series written by John Erickson. There are only a handful of episodes of this podcast, all completed in late 2020. I’m guessing that the release of McConaughey’s book Greenlights interrupted podcast production. Or maybe it was interrupted by work on Sing 2? (Speaking of Sing 2, can we all rally to get Bono to do a kids podcast?!?) Regardless, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – leaving us all wanting more episodes! Listening to the Hank episodes will be as easy on your ears as it is entertaining for your younger kids.

The Greatest Governess

Whether she charmed you in Mary Poppins, the Sound of Music, or the Princess Diaries, there’s no question that Julie Andrews is a favorite across generations. This bewitching and beloved storyteller joins her daughter, children’s author and educator Emma Walton Hamilton, in the podcast Julie’s Library, to read a children’s book to listeners for each episode. I recently listened to an episode where the brilliant, award-winning author, Jacqueline Woodson joins the show to read, The Day You Begin, a beautiful book about a child’s experience of feeling different from their classmates. Jacqueline also reads a poem that inspired The Day You Begin. The poem is from her memoir, a book that I loved reading, Brown Girl Dreaming.
